Approx. Weight: 420 grams
Locality: Giumentaro Mine, Capodarso, Enna, Sicily, Italy

The Giumentaro Mine, closed around 1984, was a famous sulfur mine located on the left bank of River Salso. The mine also produced some amazing specimens of aragonite with pseudohexagonal twinned crystal growth.

This specimen has a light minty green color, and is in excellent condition. The aragonite from Giumentaro exhibits vibrant fluorescence under a long wave light, as shown in the first photo. It will also phosphoresce, giving an afterglow for a few seconds after the UV light is turned off (must be in a dark room to observe this phenomenon). They will also fluoresce under a short wave UV light, but will only glow white but will still phosphoresce.
